Canon EOS R + Metabones + Atomos Ninja V
You can greatly improve Video Quality or your EOS R with the addition of a Metabones SpeedBooster as well as recording externally from your Canon EOS R to the Atomos Ninja V.
I recently tested the combination during a Short Film title Pawns of the Game shown above. Filmed entirely on the EOS R in 4K.
The video quality from the EOS R using 10 Bit External recording to the Ninja V is quite astonishing compared to the internal 8 Bit. I was pleasantly surprised. It allowed for way better color grading.
Although the Metabones Speedbooster is not necessary for 10 Bit external recording, it vastly improves the 4k Crop. Reducing it from 1.76 to 1.24. It paired very well on the Sigma 35mm 1.4 Art lens.
Another useful benefit from the Metabones Speedbooster is that it will also provide an extra stop of light with certain lenses. For example, the Canon EF 70-300mm F/4-5.6 became an F/2.8-4 … I also tried the Canon EF 50mm F1.2 and it remained at F1.2n
